About Maneland

Maneland Jungle lodge is the first ever hotel in Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary (Gujarat). Started humbly in 1993, Maneland holds fifteen rooms and spreads across 12-acres of wilderness skirting the core forest. Each of our rooms is unique, crafted with natural stone and eco conscious building materials. Our ethos is for our guests to enjoy the wilderness with the comforts of home. We believe in building sanctity and peace with the forest, without loud music, harsh lights or unnecessary, rapid development.

This dry deciduous forest is home to over 300 bird species, particularly raptors, nocturnal and migratory birds. Some of the key species found in Gir include the Indian Pitta, red-naped Ibis, red-headed vulture and the Indian paradise flycatcher. You can find many of these birds at the property itself. The best time for birding walks and tours is between December to March.

The Gir and Saurashtra region is known as the green belt of Gujarat. Enjoy the bold, rustic flavours of the region — the Kathiyawadi thali, savory kadhi and farsan. In the summer months you can gorge on the famous kesar mango from the region.

Explore the beauty of 10 acres of wilderness with a leisurely walk on our in-house nature trail. Meandering through Saag and indigenous trees, the trail offers a glimpse into the rich biodiversity of the area. It is enthralling to hear the knocking of a woodpecker or cross paths with a monitor lizard on an evening stroll, as you take in the sunset.

Gir has two distinct tribes, the Maldharis and the Siddhis. The Madharis are a semi-nomadic pastoral community that have lived in the forest for generations, in small settlements called nesses. They are some of the oldest safekeepers of the forest. The Siddhis are descendants of the Bantu people from East Africa, that now reside mainly in Jambur village near Sasan Gir.

image

Legend has it that the Siddhi community migrated from Tanzania to Gujarat in the 1600s as slaves, soldiers and labourers to the Nawab of Junagadh. While they are now woven deeply into the local community, they have kept some features of their culture alive. Join in and enjoy their cultural dance, complete with fire, stunts, and animated stories from old folklore.

Hear From Our Guests!

Away from the crowds. Tranquility in the jungle.
Lovely cottage room, with a truly welcoming & helpful hotel owner. Really enjoyed our stay here. It is a long way up a dirt track from the road, which is good if you want jungle tranquility. Great home cooking. We will definitely visit again if we return to Sasan Gir. And, there are lions around after midnight.

The property shares a boundary wall with the core sanctuary & is only about 2 km from the safari point. It is well maintained, clean, with courteous staff. The food is delicious!

Early morning breakfast with thepla, parathas. Refreshing tea. Bonfires in the evening. The property has stone construction so it looks like a haveli. The rooms have a private balcony. The lodge is right in the jungle, and near Devalia park and the safari entry.
