Somnath Temple

The temple of Somnath, rebuilt many times over the centuries, is the first of the twelve jyotirlingas of Shiva. The temple stands at the junction of three rivers - the Hiran, the Kapila and the Saraswati. Somnath is an important pilgrimage site and is a short drive away from Gir.

Girnar Mountain

Girnar is an important pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Jains. The mystic hills are considered to be older than the Himalayas, and host numerous temples that can be reached either on foot by climbing 10,000 steps or by cable car / ropeway. At 3,658 feet Girnar is the highest peak in Gujarat. It is easily accessible from Gir via the city of Jungadh, an hour long drive away.

Diu Island

An erstwhile Portuguese town, Diu is well-known for its sandy pristine beaches, stunning architecture, unique culture and delicious sea-food. Specifically, St Paul's cathedral, Diu fort, Naida caves and Nagoa beach are good sites to visit. Day trips can be arranged from Gir to Diu, the best time to visit is during the winter months.

Kankai and Banej

These are ancient shrines in the middle of the dense Gir forest. The temples have played a large role in shaping the culture of the communities within gir. The drive through the forest offers breathtaking views along the river, and some great wildlife sightings.
